ABOUT

I'm Jess Mannhaupt, Coordinator of Communications and Outreach at Adelphi University.

I graduated from Hofstra University in December 2022, with a Bachelor’s degree in Publishing Studies, and minors in Fine Arts and Religion Studies. At Hofstra, I was the Design Editor and Social Media Manager for our feminist and social activism literary magazine, Growl. In my senior year, I was an editor and design editor of Windmill, Hofstra's literary journal of fiction, nonfiction, art, and conversation.

In the summer of 2021, I was the Social Media Marketing Intern at The Gryphon Press, an independent children’s book publisher in Minneapolis. I worked with the Co-Publisher to create the company’s first-ever internship program while also increasing Gryphon’s social media presence substantially.

At Hofstra’s bookstore, I became more involved in the world of sales as the top 16th salesperson for Bartleby in Barnes and Noble.

As a Bookseller at Burton’s Bookstore, I worked diligently with my team to foster a comforting environment for book lovers on the North Fork of Long Island. I initiated an event partnership with the North Fork Arts Center, a new community and arts center founded by film director Tony Spiridakis.

In July 2023, I became the Event Coordinator and Bookseller at Theodore's Books, an independent bookstore in Oyster Bay, New York. I curated captivating events and effectively promoted books. I learned the expertise of crafting press releases, enhancing customer experiences, and expanding social media presence.

I am certified by the Event Management class from Professional Booksellers School (PBS), where I learned to build publicity kits, pitch to publicists, and create effective data management systems.

In the summer of 2023, I was a Volunteer Nonfiction Reader at the West Trade Review, a literary magazine in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I worked with like-minded individuals to review and assess submitted nonfiction manuscripts for potential publication.

In October 2024, I became the Coordinator of Communications and Outreach at Adelphi University where I am responsible for managing the day-to-day communications of the Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences. I focus on program marketing, promotion, and outreach, representing the College and the University in various settings.
